Marina Kaštela

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Marina Kaštela, recognised as one of the leading Adriatic marinas, is committed to the implementation of ecological practices in its daily operations. All of its activities and projects are developed with sustainability in mind, ranging from the use of renewable energy sources to waste and water management. The introduction of advanced ecological measures and technologies demonstrates its commitment to conserving natural resources, which is crucial for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Our goal is to minimise our ecological footprint and promote the preservation of Dalmatia’s natural beauty. Therefore, Marina Kaštela is more than a mere hub for nautical enthusiasts – it is also a leader in ecological awareness and sustainable tourism.

MAINTAINING SEA CLEANLINESS

In its operations, Marina Kaštela actively works to ensure the cleanliness of both soil and sea. One of the key steps taken by Marina Kaštela in their pursuit of environment protection is the installation of modern purifiers in the marina’s boat maintenance area. The use of purifiers specifically designed for treating wastewater from boat washing areas in marinas and shipyards helps prevent the spillage of paints and other harmful substances from vessels into the sea. Our purifiers use new electrochemical water treatment (EC) technology, significantly reducing pollution and preserving the marine ecosystem.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

Handling Hazardous Waste

In our boat maintenance area, special attention is given to the proper disposal of hazardous waste. For each type of waste, there is a special barrel with a corresponding waste code above it. Categories of hazardous waste include:

  • Oil filters
  • Paint and varnish containers
  • Used motor oil
  • Oily rags
  • Worn abrasive materials
  • Grease and oil mixtures from separators
  • Oily containers
  • Other solvents and solvent mixtures
  • Printing toners
  • Waste batteries
  • Waste sprays

This system helps us ensure that each type of hazardous waste is properly stored and disposed of, reducing the risk of environmental pollution.

Recycling and Waste Disposal

Marina Kaštela uses a system for recycling and waste disposal. Special containers for plastic, mixed waste, glass, paper, and cardboard are placed at several crucial locations within the marina:

  • BOAT MAINTENANCE AREA (PHOTO)
  • PARKING LOT (PHOTO)
  • PARKING LOT between the pool and Spinaker (PHOTO)

By placing these containers, guests and staff can easily and correctly dispose of waste, promoting recycling and reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION

Marina Kaštela is enhancing its commitment to sustainability by introducing an electric vehicle charging station.

This new addition not only elevates the level of services offered within the marina but also encourages the use of eco-friendly transportation. Guests can now conveniently charge their electric cars, contributing to the reduction of harmful emissions.

WASTE MANAGEMENT IN MARINA KAŠTELA'S RESTAURANTS

Marina Kaštela also pays special attention to maintaining ecological practices in its restaurants, ensuring that waste management aligns with the highest sustainability standards. The restaurants within the marina are equipped with special barrels for disposing of edible oils and biodegradable waste.

Disposal of Edible Oils

Edible oils used in the kitchen are regularly collected and disposed of in special barrels designated solely for this type of waste. This ensures that oils do not spill into the sewage system, preventing potential water pollution and reducing the strain on wastewater treatment systems.

Biodegradable Waste

Biodegradable waste, such as food scraps, is also collected in separate barrels. This practice ensures that organic materials are properly disposed of. Such waste is often used for composting, thereby reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and returning valuable nutrients to the soil.

Benefits and Goals

These practices help reduce the overall amount of waste generated in restaurants while promoting the sustainable use of resources. Proper disposal of edible oils and biodegradable waste helps achieve the following:

  • Reduce the ecological footprint of restaurants
  • Promote recycling and reuse of resources
  • Prevent water and soil pollution
  • Support sustainable practices in hospitality industry

By implementing these measures, Marina Kaštela not only improves its ecological standards but also educates its staff and guests on the importance of responsible waste management. These initiatives are a central part of our commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Emergency Measures

In the event of contamination by faeces or crude oil, Marina Kaštela is equipped with appropriate materials, placed strategically across the marina to ensure they are readily available and easily accessible. These materials include:

  • Barriers
  • Rags
  • Powder
  • Dispersants

A LOOK AHEAD

To further elevate its ecological standards, Marina Kaštela plans to allocate additional financial resources for future projects aimed at maintaining sea cleanliness. These investments will enable the implementation of new technologies and measures to further improve waste management and water purification systems. Planned investments include:

  • Procurement of advanced water purification systems: introducing new systems to further improve the quality of wastewater treatment.
  • Education and training for staff: ensuring continuous education and training for all marina staff to raise awareness of the importance of ecological practices and proper handling of waste materials.
  • Collaboration with ecological organisations: partnering with local and international ecological organisations to implement joint projects aimed at preserving the marine environment.
