In Kaštel Gomilica!
Marina Kaštela is located in Kaštel Gomilica – one of the seven villages sharing the name of Kaštela – in the heart of Dalmatia, midway between two cities with UNESCO World Heritage Site: Trogir and Split.
The proximity of Split Airport (7 km) and the controlled-access highway contributes to the appeal of this location, making it easy to reach from all around the world. The medieval forts of Kaštela, originally built for defensive purposes, have since become tourist sites. One of them, known as Kaštilac, is situated right next to the Marina.
The fort’s unique romantic atmosphere attracted the producers of the popular TV series Game of Thrones, who decided to use it as a filming location in the show’s fifth season.
The area is lucky to have a temperate climate, with the Kaštela Bay being one of the sunniest parts of the Adriatic coast. Olive groves, vineyards, citrus orchards and cherry trees cover the slopes of Kozjak mountain, all the way down to the evergreen gardens on the coast. Kaštela is the original home of one of the world’s most famous grape varieties, Zinfandel, brought to California by immigrants 200 years ago.
It also has a unique local cuisine, which reflects the traditions of its historical inhabitants, predominantly fishermen and resilient farmers who managed to cultivate fruits and vegetables on dry and rocky terrain.
To reach Marina Kaštela by boat, one must head towards the northeastern shores of Kaštela Bay – the largest bay in central Dalmatia, spanning 8 nautical miles, bordered and protected by Mount Kozjak to the north, the narrow Trogir Channel to the west, and industrial and residential zones of Split on the east. The southern side of the bay is sheltered by the long peninsulas of Čiovo and Marjan.
Upon passage through the strait known as “Marjan Gate” between cape Čiovo (visible beacon light BBI(2)6s9m7M) and cape Marjan (visible beacon light ZBI3s8m4M), dominated by the Oceanography Institute building, continue sailing in north-eastern direction, passing by the left side of green light buoy, moored about quarter of nautical mile north of the said cape Marjan.
Upon passing the buoy, set your course to 18° which will get you straight to the main entrance of the Marina Kaštela. You need to pay attention to the Galija shallow (properly marked) which must remain on your starboard side.
Entrance to the service zone with repair facilities is between the breakwater on the west and pier with visible yachts in dry berth stored ashore on the east.
Contact on-duty officer through VHF ch.17, who will give you further directions to your berth or mooring position, and help you with berthing or mooring.
Main entrance to the marina is on the west side. Enter the marina from north-west direction between the breakwaters. Vessel speed on entrance and inside marina is limited to 2 knots. The entrance to the marina is 4.8 meters deep, and the minimum depth in Marina Kaštela is 1.80 meters.
